It seems many people hate Chinese

This morning, I logged in AIM and went in the chat room, the first time. I said I'm a Chinese in public. Someone replied immediately, "I hate Chinese. " "Another Asian. " "They cheat." Upset indeed, I went out of the room, thinking " Is it a good choice to go to America? They hate Chinese. "

Always when I wake up, I will say "Have a good day!" to myself. However, I don't think I will have a good day now.

Rabbit I am very sorry to hear that you received such a welcome on aim this morning.

Unfortunately there is a lot of racism in our country, and depending on were you go it is worse or better.

However, San Fransisco celebrates the largest Chinese new year outside of Asia, and Seattle has a very large Asian community as well. A healthy mix of Chinese, Japanese, Philippine, Korean, Vietnamese and just about everybody else you can think of. I know other Americans who love Asian people and things very much.

America is mixed with many people and the Chinese have a rich history here. There is also many stories of how bad Americans treated Chinese.

I am very embarrassed at the way some Americans can be so narrow minded and naive.

It does not help that there are a barrage of books and articles that only speak of China with suspicion and fear. I read one a while back that predicted our countries would go to war over natural resources in 10 years. It is my highest hope that the borders of ignorance and intolerance would come down from all countries.

Rabbit I appreciate our interactions of friendship and I hope that you can show your friends that not all Americans are a**holes.

Stu, thanks for your long comment which comforts a lot. Now, I just calm down, thinking about some of the reasons.

Many people have a suspicion that the gymnastic girl cheated for her age, not only Americans. That's considerable. As I see it, I suspect it, too. I'll be definitely shameful if it's true. But, all the convictive evidences prove that she is 16. And it was announced in public by the Olympic Official. Why it is still talked by everybody?

Someone said he hates Chinese. Does that mean he hates one quarter of the world's population on the earth? What can I say.

That make me think that it's just like A downtown man ridicules an uptown girl or some Shang Hai guys look down upon the outlanders. But there's something different. China was once a prosperous country, so Chinese are more or less vain, which maybe the small part of reason I felt upset. It just tell us if you want to feel always proud, your county must be powerful. I think China is a county loving peace always no matter she's poor or rich.

I really agree with your highest hope that the borders of ignorance and intolerance would come down from all countries. If you establish a party whose goal is that, I will be the firt member.(Just kidding)

Thanks again.

Dear Rabbit.
I must tell you these people are not all of the Americans. My nephew married a beautiful , and very intelligent (as you are) chinese woman that he met while there were students at Northwestern. Check out his blog,

Hahah Rabbit, Americans Hate chinese government. Stupid Americans hate chinese people. America media hates chinese men government and goods and anything china related. Very seldom Do you ever come across a postitive article on china. This country is shit, they often exploit asian female sexuality and emasculate Asian men. Don't come here if your a guy it's biased as hell, do yahoo searches or google searches on topics containing china. Do a couple searchs on topics containing asian men. Then just asian. You get "GAY GAY GAY" for asian men, you get SEX tourist sites and porn asian female sites for asian, (searching with asian girls is even worse) it's really mindless propaganda an all fronts.

I work in a science lab where there are alot of Chinese workers and I've heard coworkers complain that they "hate chinese" people. I'm offering the following reasons as advice in case you come to America so you can avoid similar criticism. I think you will find America can be a very pleasant place if you make some minor adjustments. Of course, these things do not reflct my personal opinions, they are just feedback I've heard from others.
1) Westerns have very different eating habits than the Chinese people in my work place. For example, it is considered rude to make alot of noise (like slurping) when you are eating or lean very close to your food in the US and most Americans are taught from a young age not to pass gas or burp in without excusing ourselves from the room. It is also customary in the US to chew with your mouth closed. It can be very upsetting to an American to be in a small eating space with any person exhibiting these behaviors.
2) In the US it is not customary to spit on the floor unless you are outdoors.
3) The competitive nature of China lends itself towards "covering mistakes" often by telling white lies so that it appears you have done nothing wrong. It is customary in our culture to admit a mistake and apologize rather than shifting blame or denying the error.

It's interesting to see just how pervasive memory has become in our every day lives. It's like everytime I turn my head, I see something with a card slot or USB port . I guess it makes sense though, considering how much more afforable memory has become as of late...

Gahhhhh... I shouldn't be moaning and groaning. I can't make it through a single day without my R4 / R4i!
